We recommend checking the roots monthly and trimming any that are brown or extending past the yPod. To keep the plant bushy, neat, and within the right height for your Gardyn, it is important to occasionally pinch off the tops of the developing stalks. To encourage new flower bud development, remove dead flower heads (a.k.a. deadheading). When deadheading, also trim back the stem that remains on the plant so that the stem does not begin to rot.

Spider mites are common pests, but you can use our prevention and treatment tricks to keep pests at bay!

Pinch the young plants when they are about three inches tall to encourage branched growth and a bushy shape. As plants fade out of bloom, cut off the flower stem below the flowers that are dying off just above the first set of full, healthy leaves. Do this with all the dead flowers on the plant to promote continuous blooming.

Origin

Torenia is native to tropical and temperate zones. The name was given in reference to the Swedish naturalist Olof Torén (1718-1753). Torenia is also commonly called the “wishbone flower” because the pollen producing stamens inside the blossom form a shape that resembles a chicken wishbone.
